How to Disable Microsoft Update from Running Automatically on Vista

I would strongly advise you against disabling automatic updates. Vista at current is very volatile, and needs to be updated to 'patch it up'. If you do not let it do this, then your Vista is highly liable to crash more often than if you installed updates, be hijacked by hackers, or generally be less than should be expected of it.

However, if you still wish to proceed, just go to Control Panel, then click the title where it says 'Security', and then click 'Turn automatic updating on or off'. From there you can set it how you like.
